Contents: This year’s slogan of the International Landscape Biennial, “Performative Landscapes”, emphasizes the need to create landscapes which face today’s threats, playing ecological, social and political roles at the same time. Through its performative attributes, the Guggenheim’s architecture establishes a unique relationship with visitors, hosts multisensory experience of art, architecture and movement, and ultimately generates a meaning and purpose specific to the New York museum. The paper addresses performative architecture as an emerging design paradigm in which building performance,broadly understood,becomes a guiding design principle.It traces the origins of this approach to design to Tom Maver Õs visionary work in early seventies,discusses the inadequacy of existing building performance simulation tools in conceptual design, and proposes the development of software that can provide dynamic processes of formation based on specific performance objectives. 2012-12-02 · Performative design is not an add-on to an existing design, in the form of louvers, high-efficiency MEP or building-integrated photovoltaic system. It should determine the typology and basic architecture of the building system. Following this remit, the Performative Architecture Installation aimed to serve as a site for experimental learning and as a demonstrator of possibilities to the audiences of peers and members of general public.
